Call for proposals "Digital Peer Publishing NRW" of the MWF

The conventional forms of publishing scientific documents have been expanded by the possibilities of the Internet for some years now. Commercial publishers now offer academic journals and books not only in printed but also in digital form.

Due to exorbitant price increases for scientific journals in the STM field, libraries are increasingly less able to purchase or licence these products - regardless of whether they are published conventionally or electronically. This is one of the reasons why "alternative forms" of publishing are being developed, the aim of which is to ensure that the results produced by the scientific community can also be made available to it. The Ministry of Science and Research of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia strongly supports these alternative forms of publication. Through the "Digital Peer Publishing NRW" call for proposals it has initiated, it aims to provide financial support to scientists and libraries interested in trialling these alternative forms of publication. In particular, the projects should address the challenge of quality assurance and apply peer review procedures, which have proven their worth in the publication of scientific information, to freely available e-journals.

Researchers at Paderborn University who are interested in actively participating in such a project are asked to express their interest to the management of Paderborn University Library. The University Library would be happy to act as a project partner.

Web of Science

The Web of Science consists of the databases Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index. The databases analyse around 8,500 of the most important international specialist journals in almost all scientific fields and, in particular, enable a search for citations, which allows the most frequently cited specialist articles to be ranked. The Web of Science is therefore one of the most important bibliographic reference databases worldwide.

The library has licensed several backfiles for the Paderborn campus, so that you can now search the following reporting periods.

  • SCI : 1945 - today
  • SSCI: 1956 - today
  • AHCI: 1975 - today

You will also find a user manual here.
